Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer, Minister of Family and Social Services Derya Yanık, Minister of Interior Affairs Süleyman Soylu and Minister of Justice Abdülhamit Gül have attended the 2022 Roadmap Meeting for Combating Violence Against Women.

Noting that the Ministry of National Education will continue to support prevention of violence against women like it did in the past, Minister Özer stressed that education is among the vital elements in the prevention of violence.

Özer reminded that there has been an important transformation in education in the last 20 years and added that Turkey managed to reach the OECD average in schooling rate.

"As of 2014, the schooling rate of female students exceeded the schooling rate of male students in secondary and higher education.  This is very important data. Education and employment have a direct relation with the reinforcement of social status of women. We will continue to make required improvements in the schooling rate of female students in preschool education," said Özer.

Özer mentioned the "Where were we?" project supported by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's spouse Emine Erdoğan which allowed women who dropped out of school to complete their education.

"Recent improvements achieved in vocational education have provided important opportunities for women in the labor market. Public education centers offer certificated vocational courses. Women are the biggest beneficiaries of these centers. Meanwhile, counseling research centers affiliated to our Directorate General for Special Education and Guidance Services are successfully carrying out counseling activities on violence against women, violence awareness, bullying and cyber bullying," Özer added.
