MINISTER ÖZER MEETS UK'S MINISTER OF STATE FOR SCHOOL STANDARDS ROBIN WALKER

Visiting the UK to attend the World Education Forum, Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer got together with UK's Minister of State for School Standards Robin Walker as a part of his contacts in London.
 
Minister Özer mentioned developments in education in Türkiye during the visit and noted that improvement of schooling rates, especially preschool education is among the priorities of the Turkish Ministry of National Education.
 
Özer noted that vocational education capacity in Türkiye is very strong adding that they also focus on the training programs for teachers. He said that his Ministry is encouraging teachers for post-graduate programs and the recently passed Teaching Profession Law provides great opportunities to teachers.
 
Özer added that the Ministry organized mathematics and foreign language summer schools in an effort to overcome learning loss that occurred due to Covid-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, Minister Robin Walker expressed his happiness to meet Minister Özer and noted that they want to boost education cooperation with Türkiye.
 
Minister Walker said that early childhood education and child care will have an important difference in education and both countries have similar priorities.
 
He mentioned that the success rate in the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) is 48 percent and they aim at increasing this figure to 90 percent. He added that language education is also among the priorities of the UK education system.
