Minister Özer announced the details of activities carried out by the Ministry as a part of its mathematics campaign and noted that they have failed to reach desired results yet despite all improvement activities carried out for many years.
"When we consider the results of recent Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) and Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) surveys, we see that there has been an important improvement in science literacy but improvement in mathematics has not reached the desired level. Due to this reason, we have decided to start a campaign in order to support mathematics literacy. Our Ministry has been working intensively with all higher education institutions, universities, TÜBİTAK, academicians and scientists for the last 3 months in order to motivate students to associate mathematics with daily life skills. We have founded mathematics workshops and implement various different activities in different parts of the country," said Özer.
We have reached the final stage
Minister Özer stated that their goal is to motivate children to like children, help them to use their mathematics knowledge in life and encourage them to analytical thinking.
"We have reached the final stage of our activities carried out in order to produce materials and documents that will change the teaching approach and include the latest trends in mathematics education. The project will officially begin next Tuesday and announce our action plan," said Özer.
