Approximately 19 million students in primary and secondary education institutions will receive report cards on January 20 to have the first semester holiday of the 2022-2023 school year.
The "summer schools", which were opened for the first time last year during the summer break, upon the instruction of the Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer, received a great deal of demand from parents. Thereupon, the Ministry decided to open all courses by expanding the scope of summer school during the semester holiday. In this context, free courses, which will be implemented in the "winter" period for the first time this year, will start on January 21 and continue until Sunday on February 5.
Students will be able to take a total of 40 hours in two weeks
The courses that will be opened on Mathematics and English lessons, will consist of activities conducted in 5 groups for students from 4th to 12th grade. A student can apply for both of these courses.
Taking 2 hours per day and 10 hours per week, students will be able to take a total of 20 hours from one course. The student who attends two courses will take a total of 40 hours in two weeks.
In the Science and Art Centers (BİLSEM) support and training courses, each workshop program in science and art will be planned as 16 hours in total, with a maximum of 4 hours per day. A student will be able to attend the BİLSEM support and training course from two different workshops or course groups for 16 hours per week and 32 hours in total. Students and teachers will be able to benefit from the courses opened in their provinces.
Digital materials are ready for the semester holiday
Student activity materials were also prepared to be published digitally for English and mathematics courses under the Directorate General of Basic Education. A framework program for Mathematics and English lessons at primary education level was prepared for students from the 4th to 8th grade.
5 different digital materials will be available to students from preschool, primary and secondary school levels for the semester break for the first time. Two new magazines called "Matematik ile Eğlenceli Kış" for mathematics lessons and "Winter Fun with English" for English lessons were prepared in a digital environment.
3 different scientific and art journals which contain up-to-date information, entertaining and interactive content for students from preschool, primary school and secondary school, were prepared in the digital environment for the first time.
The Ministry will prepare new digital education materials available to all students on its official website as of Friday on January 20. The materials were designed in a way that allows students to have fun instructively for their development. Consisting of new approaches, the program included differentiated and enriched content that was entertaining, related to daily life, and covering the learning by experience process in order to meet the needs of the students.
The Ministry also prepared videos and interactive content in order to ensure the development of primary school students in Mathematics and English.
Activities involving use of knowledge and skills were included in the course. It was aimed to prepare students for the next term by resting, having fun and repeating what they have learned.
Coding science and data analysis activities in high schools
The Ministry of National Education has prepared a new course schedule for mathematics with innovative approaches for the high school level courses during the semester break for the first time. Various areas such as cryptography, data analysis, discovery of the world of geometry and activities on generating solutions to global problems were included in the program.
In this context, students will create their own code algorithms with activities where they will learn the basics of coding science. In the activities titled as "The adventure of the data", the contents on data collection, analysis and interpretation was prepared for students. Students are expected to reach the details of how mathematics is used in real life and to create their own projects in mathematics programs which are prepared as the innovative approach of the Ministry of Education.
In accordance with the newly prepared program, the teacher also prepared handbooks. The Ministry also published new materials on its website for the implementation of the new mathematics course program to be implemented in the courses.
55 different workshops will be established in BİLSEMs
Science and art courses at BİLSEMs will be open to all students from 2nd grade to 12th grade. Students will be able to benefit from 16 hour workshop programs. In this context, 55 different workshops on robotics, artificial intelligence, software development, aviation and space, renewable energy, scientific research techniques and mind games will be brought together with students in different regions.
The semester holiday will begin on January 23 and continue till February 3, 2023. The second mid term break will begin on April 17 and end on April 20, 2023. The school year will end on June 16, 2023.
