INTENSE INTEREST TO VOCATIONAL EDUCATION CENTERS

The Ministry of National Education continues to increase the number of vocational education centers and contribute to the increase in employment.
 
According to the amendment made in the Vocational Education Law No. 3308, one third of minimum wage paid to students enrolled in vocational education centers will be compensated by the state. The amendment also increased the wage paid to third grade students from one third of the minimum wage to half of minimum wage.
 
Highest increase observed in İstanbul, Ankara and Adana
Students in İstanbul showed highest interest in vocational education centers. Before the amendment, the number of students enrolled in these centers was 13722 and this figure increased to 22034. Increase in the number of students enrolled in vocational education centers was 5043 in Ankara and 4548 in Adana.
 
New term in the relationship between vocational education and employment
Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer stressed that the amendment in the Vocational Education Law initiated a new term in raising human resources demanded in the labor market.
 
"For the first time, vocational education centers became a center of attraction for both employers and young people who want to become a part of the labor market in a short period of time. This is a historical step that will increase employment rates in our country. The number of students enrolled in these centers increased by 57 percent. Vocational education centers provide an important opportunity for decreasing unemployment among young people," Özer added.
