Deputy Minister of National Education Petek Aşkar attended the meeting organized in Kızılcahamam between August 15 and 18, 2022 with the purpose of making assessments about K12 National Skill Development Program.
Director General for Secondary Education Halil İbrahim Topçu and UNICEF Representative and Education Specialist Kamil Kurtul were also present at the meeting.
"We are happy about the outcome of the process after working with sacrifice for our students are the guarantee of our future"
Deputy Minister Petek Aşkar gave information about the activities carried out as a part of the meeting.
"Expert academicians and teachers are forming a national skill map in K12 level suitable for each grade in order to define and classify general skills, literacy skills and special skills of our era; define K12 level standards and indicators and associate every skill with each other. K12 National Skill Map can be rapidly adapted to the cognitive, socio-emotional skills that teachers need as well as to the literacy and field skills education process," said Aşkar.
Noting that literary types according to the needs of our era were defined as a part of literacy skills, Aşkar stated that, "We paid special attention in order to draw a narrow conceptual and theoretical framework while defining the types of literacy. We defined these types in order to establish standards and indicators."
Aşkar went on to say that: "As a part of mathematics skills study, we selected umbrella skills and listed other skills under the umbrella skills under the name of associated skills. Selected limited number of skills are defined as "reasoning", "problem solving and modeling", "representation and communication", "use of mathematical devices and technology" and "associating" and we have established the standards and indicators of these skills. As a part of Turkish skills, we have revised preschool education program, Turkish courses in primary and secondary schools and Turkish language and literature lessons and defined required actions."
