Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer gave information about vocational education central programs designed for high school and university graduates. They are required to attend 6-8 months long training programs in order to plan their career again and 64,149 graduates from 81 cities have applied to these programs.

Özer also mentioned that the Ministry has taken important steps in order to improve vocational education centers and they have established a flexible model in order to allow the graduates of these centers to get high school diploma.

Amendments made in the Vocational Education Law no. 3308 in December 2021 has lifted the financial burden on employers and students enrolled in the vocational education centers. Students are paid 30 percent of the minimum wage during the first four years of their education and these salaries are paid by the state.

"Currently, students enrolled in these centers are getting 1,275 liras monthly salary and insured against occupational accidents and illnesses while studying. After the amendment, the number of students enrolled in vocational education centers increased by 160 percent and reached 417 thousand," said Özer.

The Ministry aims at enrolling 1 million students in these centers until the end of 2022 and already achieved 41 percent of its goal in the first three months of this year.

There are post-graduate students among those who opt for vocational education centers
The Ministry recently organized vocational education central programs designed for high school and university graduates. In March, 64,149 graduates from 81 cities who applied to these programs started training. For example, an electric department graduate could apply to a training program in order to receive mastership diploma in electronics. This program was designed in order to respond to the urgent need in the labor market and equip new skills to graduates.

They plan their careers while they also get paid and insured
Noting that some overcrowded departments of Vocational and Technical Anatolia High Schools are causing problems in the labor market, Özer said, "We will give the graduates of these departments the opportunity to plan their careers again according to their own skills and abilities and needs of the labor market. Those who enrolled in these programs will get half of minimum wage as a salary and they will be insured against occupational illnesses and accidents."
