The Ministry of National Education has been focusing on patent, useful model, design and brand registration as a part of intellectual property rights projects since 2019.
The Ministry has taken steps within this context in vocational education. Research and Development Centers were founded in vocational and technical high schools and total 188 products, 12 of them being patented, 8 useful models, 109 designs and 59 brands were registered in 2020. Recently, the Ministry initiated intellectual property rights projects in Science and Arts Centers (BİLSEMs).
With the support of Turkish Patent and Brand Institution, intellectual and industrial property rights training programs are organized for teachers working in 183 BİLSEMs.
Projects carried out in BİLSEMs gave positive outcomes. BİLSEMs applied for the registration of 1724 products, 101 of them being a patent, 115 useful models, 1460 designs and 8 brands in the first five months of 2021. The Ministry was aiming at registering at least one product of each BİLSEM. 520 products were registered till now and the goal set of 2021 was exceeded in the first five months of the year.
BİLSEMs set a goal of registering 1000 patents, useful models, designs and brands
